When breeding to improve, and progress the breed, which as committed breeders, we should all be aiming to do, it is inevitable that you sometimes have to reach the decision to occasionally rehome cats.

The reasons that breeders offer slightly older cats for new homes, can be very varied, but can generally be for some of the following reasons:

The breeder has decided to 'retire' there female cat, for whatever reason, this could be from feeling that she has more than 'played her part' and deserves a good long happy retirement, where she will be spoiled, or possibly the girl didn't take to motherhood - not all of them do, and the last thing any breeder wants to do is to lose young and very viable lives because their mother cannot cope, that is just a heartbreaking situation for all concerned. In those circumstances, it is far kinder just to concede to the facts, and neuter the girl

Another reason why younger adults may be offered can be when the breeder has decided to 'run a kitten on'.

None of us are able to predict the future, and when assessing the quality of a kitten within the first three months of life, you can only be objective, and note what is good, and what is bad (there's always something, as unless I missed something, nobody has bred the 'perfect' cat yet, but it is such fun trying!) It may well be then, for one reason or another, the kitten hasn't quite fulfilled the breeders hopes, and they then decide to let it go after all.

This doesn't mean that your cat is in any way substandard! Just that the breeder has decided not to keep it as it doesn't quite meet their criteria, either as breeding potential, or as a show cat.

A further reason, which, sadly at present is my reason for being very, very reluctantly and sadly in this position is poor health. Unfortunately for me, I was diagnosed with M.S. earlier on this year, and have now had to concede that my life isn't quite what it was, and that I need to cut down a little on the numbers of cats that I keep. As you can imagine, this has been an extremely difficult fact to accept, and I am hating every minute of it, but the best care and attention for my cats must come first without question, so I am having to gradually let some go, one at a time, to soften the blow, as to me, it is like selling your Granny.

All breeders should be completely open and honest with prospective new owners at all times, and if you request to meet their feline family, you should expect to be permitted to do so unless you have the reasons why explained to you - don't trot about from one breeders house to another for example, it can spread germs, and we won't thank you for that!

If you ask a breeder what is right and what is not quite so right about any cat or kitten, you should expect them to be able to tell you, and explain why, rather than just reeling off a load of 'technical jargon'.

Well, hopefully I have managed to explain to you the various reasons why you might find older cats offered to suitable new homes, so without further ado, please meet the following:

Fanatikat The White Wife

After much thought and soul searching, I have decided to try and find this girl a new home.

She is now aged two and a half, and I mainly due to my dramatically reducing my breeding because of my health, I have not attempted to breed from her. She is entire at present, and I would consider in the right circumstances, a new home for her on the active register, but am also equally as happy for he to go as a much loved neuter pet, as it's the right home that matters more to me.

White Wife is quite a 'typy' British girl, resulting in the typical mucky eyes found with this.

She is a very happy and affectionate girl.

Branwen

Branwen is a lovely girl, who has helped my to re-establish my Blacks by producing me a wonderful little Black daughter, whom I have kept and since shown

As Branwen had quite a difficult pregnancy, we have now decided that she would probably far more enjoy the rest of her years as a much loved and happy neuter girl. Branwen has a really relaxed and happy disposition, and should make a super pet.

Raj

Raj is a stonking great big Cream & White Van Patterned lad that I bred myself and kept for use in my Van breeding programme.

As this is now something I am no longer able to focus on, opting instead to stay with my Whites as I reduce both my numbers and litters, I have decided that it would be fairer (and less frustrating for Raj) if he were to spend his days gracing someone's home as a big fat smiley neuter cat. Raj is an extremely well boned chunky cat, and should make a big soppy pet for a very loving home.

I will be adding further cats over soon, primarily as I get the guts to do it, so please do check back again soon.
